Activities
Research and Knowledge Production
In partnership with governments, civil society organizations, and private foundations, ELLA conducts original research on key education challenges in LAC, including: how to expand quality early childhood education; what education governance systems are most conducive to ensuring quality and equity for all; how to attract, develop, motivate, retain, and deploy effective educators; how to leverage education technology to serve disadvantaged students; addressing higher education disparities; and mitigating the impact of education disruptions due to climate change, wars, and migration. ELLA’s research will be shared through policy briefs and academic publications, contributing to developing evidence-based policies that address critical issues in education policy.
Training and Capacity Building
ELLA works with PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and local partners to equip them with the necessary skills to conduct high-impact research and engage in education policy design, adoption, and implementation. ELLA will contribute to developing the next generation of education leaders through workshops, fellowships, and research-to-practice projects.
Policy Engagement and Collaboration
By connecting researchers with policymakers, governments, and civil society organizations, the Lab will support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of education initiatives across LAC. Collaboration with key stakeholders will enable direct engagement with policy processes, ensuring that our research findings inform current education policies and reforms throughout the region.
Data and Mapping Initiatives
ELLA will map education administrative and survey data and policy reforms across the LAC region, identifying opportunities for producing policy-relevant research. These resources will help highlight educational access and quality gaps, particularly in marginalized communities, and foster cross-country knowledge to inform policy reforms.
Regional Partnerships
ELLA will work closely with researchers, other research centers, and think tanks to share best practices and build a global network to improve educational outcomes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
